I discovered – thanks to the many minions of the remarkable Jon Morrow – a web site that posts 10 words a couple of times per week, and challenges you to write (in the comments) a cohesive short story using all ten words. It’s tons of fun, and harder than it looks. Give it a try!

I used the Windows beta of Scrivener to write the SXSW Peeps book - way more effective than Word for serious writing.
